Another Friar gets called by an NBA team; who is it and what team will he play for?

Devin Carter will have some Providence College company with him attempting to make a first impression in the NBA ranks for the 2024-25 season.

Josh Oduro has agreed to a Summer League deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Friars announced the signing early Friday, and their graduate big man will join the roster next month for a two-week stay in Las Vegas.

Oduro was strong during his lone season with Providence, averaging 15.9 points and 7.5 rebounds. He was an honorable-mention selection to the postseason Big East team after ranking inside the league’s top 10 in a host of categories. Oduro was a two-time all-conference selection with George Mason in the Atlantic 10 before opting to transfer and follow coach Kim English to his new job with the Friars.

“Josh is a special player,” English said in a statement. “This season he competed against some of the top players in the country in the Big East and he put up impressive numbers.”

Oduro was an all-tournament selection at the Portsmouth Invitational and played in the NABC All-Star game at the Final Four in Phoenix. He shot 56.7% from 2-point range and was inside the national top-325 in block percentage, offensive- rebounding percentage and defensive-rebounding percentage. Oduro posted five double-doubles in 34 games with Providence, which went 21-14 overall and reached the NIT.
