The Cleveland Cavaliers signed former Memphis basketball standout Nae’Qwan Tomlin, Tomlin’s mentor, Steve Barnett, told The Commercial Appeal.
Tomlin is scheduled to report on Monday. It is unclear what type of contract he has agreed to, at this point, Barnett said.
The 6-foot-10 forward played the final 21 games in his only season with the Tigers in 2023-24, averaging 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. Tomlin was a mid-season transfer from Kansas State. The Harlem, N.Y., native spent one season with the Wildcats, helping Jerome Tang’s team reach the Elite Eight in 2022-23, putting up 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds along the way.
Tomlin’s organized basketball career began at Monroe (N.Y.) Community College. After one season there, he spent two seasons at Chipola (Fla.) Community College. The 23-year-old did not play high school basketball due to academic ineligibility.
But once Tomlin turned a corner, he never turned back. In his partial season at Memphis, he connected on 60.1% of his field goals, which included a 39.6% clip beyond the 3-point line.
