Dyson Daniels of the Atlanta Hawks has been honored with the George Mikan Trophy, recognizing him as the Kia NBA Most Improved Player for the 2024-25 season.
On Wednesday, the league revealed the outcomes from a global panel of 100 voters.
Ivica Zubac, the Croatian starting center for the Los Angeles Clippers, secured second place, making a significant jump from his previous sixth-place finish in the Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year votes. The 28-year-old player accumulated 186 total points, which included 23 first-place, 18 second-place, and 17 third-place votes—falling short of Daniels’ 332 points and 44 first-place votes.
Currently, Zubac and the Clippers are concentrating on their struggle to avoid elimination in the 2025 NBA Playoffs presented by Google. With the series against the Denver Nuggets at 3-2, Game 6 of this best-of-seven matchup is slated for Thursday at the Intuit Dome. A victory at home would equalize the Western Conference Quarterfinals series at 3-3, setting up a decisive Game 7 at Ball Arena during the next installment of NBA Saturdays.
Improvements demonstrated by the Portland Trail Blazers led to 24-year-old Israeli combo forward Deni Avdija earning 17 points, placing him eighth in the Most Improved Player voting, while 24-year-old Belgian forward Toumani Camara garnered five points to rank 12th. British athlete O.G. Anunoby of the New York Knicks finished 13th with three points.
The other finalist announced was Cade Cunningham from the Detroit Pistons, who recorded 122 points, just edging out Christian Braun of the Denver Nuggets, who totaled 120 points.
