Doug Christie Shares Heartfelt Bond with Domantas Sabonis as New Kings Head Coach

After Sacramento’s decision to part ways with Mike Brown at the conclusion of the 2024 season, Doug Christie stepped up as the interim head coach, successfully guiding the Kings to the Play-In Tournament.

Shortly after the team’s season came to an end following their loss to the Dallas Mavericks in the Play-Ins, Christie, a former player for the franchise, was officially named head coach.

In an interview with Sactown Sports 1140, Christie shared insights about his present and future rapport with Domantas Sabonis. “Domas reached out to me. We’ve had conversations and exchanged texts. We haven’t delved deeply into specifics, keeping it more personal. But I genuinely care for him,” Christie remarked.

“He’s played a key role in many of my endeavors, and I’m truly grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with such exceptional talent. When it comes to his work and goals, it’s essential for us to engage and have discussions to align our visions.”

“I’m already aware of his aspirations, but it’s important we tackle them from this angle to ensure he gets all he needs from me, and I will make that a priority,” Christie added, reflecting on Sabonis.

In his fourth full season with the Sacramento Kings, Domantas Sabonis has consistently delivered impressive stats, averaging a double-double with 19.1 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.
