Headline: Victor Wembanyama Honors Gregg Popovich’s Legacy: “An Inspiring Journey Comes to a Close”

After an illustrious coaching tenure spanning nearly three decades, Gregg Popovich has officially stepped down from his role with the San Antonio Spurs, transitioning to the position of President of Basketball Operations for the team.

Throughout his career, Popovich has had the privilege of mentoring some of the greatest talents in NBA history, including legends like David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili.

In the latter phase of his career, he also had the opportunity to coach one of the league’s promising future stars, Victor Wembanyama. Interestingly, both Popovich and Wembanyama were sidelined during the final segment of the 2024-25 season—Popovich due to a mild stroke he suffered in November, and Wemby because of a shoulder vein thrombosis.

Following the announcement of his transition, Wembanyama shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, expressing gratitude for Popovich’s guidance during his initial experiences in the NBA.

“29 years. Coach, thank you for your wisdom, your leadership, and the culture you established… But most importantly, for being such an inspiring individual,” he expressed. “It has been a privilege to be involved in your 29-year journey. Wishing you all the best in this new chapter,” Wemby concluded.

29 years.

Coach, thank you for your wisdom, your leadership, and the culture you established…

But above all, for being an incredible and inspiring individual.

It has been a privilege to be involved in your 29-year journey. Wishing you all the best in this new chapter.
