Luka Doncic is facing a bustling offseason. In addition to representing Slovenia at EuroBasket 2025, he might also be looking to finalize a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Currently, his contract extends through the 2025-26 season and includes a player option for 2026-27. However, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, he is expected to pledge his future to the prestigious franchise this summer.
After the Lakers’ exit from the 2025 NBA Playoffs presented by Google, the 26-year-old Slovenian star refrained from discussing his contract directly but appeared eager to concentrate on his future with the Lakers.
“I’m very happy to be here. I had an amazing couple of months. I’m still learning about everything—the city, the team. I’m just trying to take it all in,” he expressed during a postgame press conference after the team’s season-ending defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Recent reports indicate that the dynamic player is fully invested in the Lakers, aiming for the elusive NBA championship.
Set to earn $46 million next season, along with a nearly $49 million player option, as part of his deal with the Dallas Mavericks in 2021, the Ljubljana native could sign a four-year contract extension worth $229 million during the offseason.
During his time with the Lakers—encompassing 33 games from the 2024-25 regular season through the first round of the playoffs following a midseason trade—he averaged 28.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game.
