Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum underwent surgery to address a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg, as announced by the organization. His injury occurred during the Celtics’ 113–121 defeat to the New York Knicks in Game 4.
According to the Celtics:
“Jayson Tatum successfully had surgery today to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. A timeline for his return has not yet been established, but he is anticipated to make a complete recovery. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”
Tatum sustained the injury while attempting to secure a loose ball with 2:58 left on the clock, and the Celtics trailing 104–113. Prior to his exit, he recorded 42 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
“It’s hard,” Jaylen Brown remarked after the game. “There’s not much else to say.”
The series now shifts to Boston, where the Celtics will have to compete in a critical game without their star player, as the Knicks lead the series 3-1.
