NBC Sports has announced the addition of Michael Jordan as a special contributor for its forthcoming NBA game coverage.
Details surrounding the specific nature of the six-time NBA champion’s media role remain vague.
The 62-year-old basketball icon officially became part of NBC on Monday.
According to a press release: “Michael Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and a distinguished member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, will be joining NBC Sports’ NBA coverage as a special contributor when the 2025-26 season kicks off in October. This announcement was unveiled earlier today at NBCUniversal’s Upfront event held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
“I’m thrilled to see the NBA returning to NBC,” Jordan stated. “The NBA on NBC played a significant role in my career, and I’m looking forward to contributing to this project. I can’t wait to connect with everyone when the NBA on NBC returns this October.”
“Michael’s impact, both in the game and beyond, is undeniable,” remarked NBC Sports President Rick Cordella. “We are incredibly honored to welcome him to our coverage.”
Regarded by many as the greatest basketball player ever, Jordan boasts an impressive array of achievements:
Beyond basketball, he is a prominent businessman, investor, and philanthropist. His Jordan Brand, a division of NIKE, has been at the forefront of innovation in athletic footwear and apparel since its inception in 1997. Additionally, he made history as the first former player to take majority ownership of an NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets. In the fall of 2020, together with three-time Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin, he established a NASCAR team named 23XI Racing.
A staunch advocate for philanthropy, Jordan has long been committed to various charitable initiatives that support at-risk youth, assist children with disabilities and illnesses, aid teachers, and provide disaster relief. The Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics, operated by Novant Health in North Carolina, deliver essential health services to thousands of patients. Since 2008, Jordan has also served as the Chief Wish Ambassador for Make-A-Wish, fulfilling wishes for children for over 35 years.
