During the launch of the third edition of the “Stoiximan 22oz Elite Basketball Tournament,” Thanasis Antetokounmpo addressed several topics.
One of the main discussions centered around the potential establishment of the NBA Europe. “It’s incredible! Playing in the NBA while being in Europe? That sounds fantastic. However, I believe the competition will be fiercer than many anticipate,” he remarked.
“There’s a lot of eagerness, but from what I observe, steps are being taken to bring this concept to fruition. Ultimately, there will be collaboration. It’s extremely appealing, especially for players like us,” he added.
Thanasis also commented on both Panathinaikos and Olympiacos making it to the EuroLeague Final Four this year in Abu Dhabi. “I take great pride in both teams. The competition will be intense, both on the court and off. I think Abu Dhabi is about to witness something truly unprecedented,” he noted.
“This is a chance to showcase the advancements in Greek basketball. It’s remarkable that two out of 14 teams can sustain such consistency. While there are 5-6 teams that compel you to pause everything to watch them play, I hope we’ll return to that level of engagement.”
“People used to close their businesses to watch basketball. If we can reach the Final Four in every competition where a Greek team is involved, that would be a significant achievement,” Antetokounmpo remarked.
Finally, the Greek forward discussed his return to the game. “I always give my maximum effort for any team I represent. My body just needs to be prepared for that to happen. I can’t participate unless I’m completely fit,” Thanasis stated.
“I felt good enough since December, but I chose not to play. That wouldn’t have been fair to me. I would have looked like a different player. I want to return and be at my best.”
