Jokic and Murray Reflect on Seasons End and Set Ambitious Goals for Next Championship Push

A disappointing defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder concluded the 2024-25 season for the Denver Nuggets.

Looking ahead to the 2025-26 season, one of the uncertainties is the potential elevation of David Adelman to a full-time head coaching role. In addition to expressing his backing for the experienced 44-year-old coach, Nikola Jokic also highlighted the need for changes to the team’s roster.

“It’s challenging for the players to elevate their game, particularly in the playoffs against strong opponents like the Clippers and OKC. We can’t expect someone who has only participated in 20 or 30 games to come in and perform,” commented the Sombor, Serbia native. “It’s clear that teams with deeper rotations and more extensive benches tend to succeed: Indiana, OKC, Minnesota.”

During a postgame press conference after their season came to an end at Paycom Center on an NBA Sunday, Jokic and Jamal Murray discussed their aspirations of securing a second NBA championship together.

“Absolutely,” the optimistic 28-year-old Canadian guard stated about the Nuggets’ prospects, “We just fell short tonight. We’ll return to the gym and get back to work for next season.”

In response to a similar inquiry, Jokic shared his thoughts: “We didn’t succeed. If we could have, we would have won, so I don’t put stock in those ‘ifs.’ We had our chance, and we didn’t capitalize, so I think it’s clear we can’t.”

Murray’s contract is secure through the conclusion of the 2028-29 season, while Jokic’s deal extends until the end of the 2026-27 season, including a player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
