The fervent quest for memorabilia associated with Michael Jordan included a jersey worn during the 1992-93 season while playing for the Chicago Bulls. This iconic uniform was also featured in a photo shoot for the October 18, 1993, issue of Sports Illustrated.
This celebrated jersey fetched an impressive 2.623 million dollars—thanks to the buyer’s premium—at a Heritage Auctions event on Sunday, as reported by ESPN’s Dan Hajducky.
The two-time inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame donned this jersey in at least 11 games while securing his third championship out of six with the Bulls, as verified by photo-matching services MeiGray and Sports Investors Authentication. Notably, that season marked one of his ten appearances as the league’s leading scorer, concluding a seven-year period of dominance that began in 1987.
Although the sale price was substantial, it still fell short of the record 10.091 million dollars that his ‘Last Dance’ jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals commanded in September 2022.
At 62, Jordan has recently re-entered the North American basketball scene, taking on a new role as a special contributor for NBC’s forthcoming NBA coverage. Previously, he was the majority owner and governor of the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets from 2010 until 2023.
His illustrious playing career, which began in 1984 and concluded in 2003 with brief hiatuses between his time with the Bulls and the Washington Wizards, solidified his status as a basketball legend. Jordan also represented the United States, earning Olympic gold medals in 1984 and as a part of the Dream Team in 1992.
