Thanasis Antetokounmpo has revealed that he has received medical clearance to continue his basketball career.
“I’m back,” he emphasized during an episode of his podcast, Thanalysis Show.
In the most recent recording, filmed in March, the 32-year-old forward expressed his excitement about the chance to return to the court. This marks the first time he has been cleared by physicians to play following surgery for a torn Achilles tendon he sustained in 2024.
As a result of this injury, he has been an unrestricted free agent throughout the 2024-25 season.
It is still uncertain whether he will sign a new contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he could potentially play alongside his brother, Giannis Antetokounmpo, in the 2025-26 season. In related news, Giannis is scheduled to meet with the team’s front office to discuss his future with the Wisconsin franchise.
Having played 223 games in the NBA, including 221 with the Bucks, Thanasis has spent the last five years in Milwaukee. Contributing in a supporting role, he was part of the team that won an NBA championship in 2021, with Giannis earning the title of Finals MVP.
Before his time with the Bucks, he appeared in two games for the New York Knicks during the 2015-16 regular season. He was selected by the Knicks as the 51st overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Originating from Filathlitikos, his professional career also includes multiple stints in the G League, as well as European experience with Panathinaikos and MoraBanc Andorra.
On the international stage, he made his debut for the senior Greek national team in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Turin and has since participated in two editions of the FIBA World Cup and two EuroBasket tournaments.
