During a recent segment on Inside the NBA on ESPN, Charles Barkley shared his thoughts on the evolving situation involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
With the 30-year-old forward indicating he might explore other options following the 2025-26 season, the 62-year-old former athlete dismissed such a mindset.
“As an elite player, you should think, ‘I’m a fantastic player. If I get some support, we’re going to succeed.’ And we must acknowledge the Milwaukee Bucks for their efforts. I wish someone cared for me as much as the Bucks care for Giannis. Seriously. They went out and acquired Dame Lillard. They brought in Myles Turner. They have done everything in their power to help the Bucks achieve success again. So the idea that he feels they aren’t doing their utmost? Man, they have gone above and beyond. Honestly, I want someone to care about me as much as the Bucks care about Giannis. I truly mean that,” Barkley stated.
“It’s disappointing that he seems to believe he deserves a championship every single year,” he continued, reflecting on the 2021 NBA champion. “Everyone aims for a title, but the Bucks have tried everything possible. It pains me to hear him say, ‘If we don’t win a championship this year, I want to leave.’ I really dislike hearing that.”
Giannis is set to begin his 13th season in the North American league, having remained committed to the Bucks since he was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2013 draft.
