In a recent segment on ESPN’s Inside the NBA, Charles Barkley shared his thoughts on the evolving situation between Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 30-year-old forward hinted that he might explore other opportunities after the 2025-26 season, prompting the 62-year-old former NBA star to criticize this mindset.
“As an elite player, your mindset should be, ‘I’m a star. With some support, victory is within reach.’ You have to commend the Milwaukee Bucks for their efforts. I wish someone cared for me as much as the Bucks care for Giannis. They went above and beyond to bring him players like Dame Lillard and Myles Turner, doing everything in their power to help the team succeed again. So the idea that he feels they’re not doing enough? Seriously, they’ve done all they can. I truly wish someone would love me as much as the Bucks love Giannis,” Barkley stated.
“It’s unfortunate that he believes he deserves a championship every season,” he continued about the 2021 NBA champion. “Everyone aspires to win a title, but the Bucks have poured their hearts into this endeavor. It saddens me to hear him think along the lines of, ‘If we don’t win a championship this year, I want to leave.’ I dislike that sentiment.”
Giannis is set to begin his 13th season in the NBA, having remained loyal to the Bucks since being selected as the 15th overall pick in the 2013 draft.
