The San Antonio Spurs triumphed over the New Orleans Pelicans, 120-116, in an overtime showdown on Friday night.
In a visit to the Smoothie King Center, Victor Wembanyama delivered an impressive performance, recording a double-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, alongside nine blocks, two assists, and one steal. His final block set the tone for an assertive start to the overtime period, showcasing his reaction after missing a shot against Zion Williamson at the end of the fourth quarter, helping his team improve to 2-0 in the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season.
“I truly enjoyed the experience, but it was quite stressful,” Wembanyama remarked as he began the postgame press conference.
The Spurs were missing Polish player Jeremy Sochan due to a left wrist sprain, while Croatian Karlo Matkovic sat out for the Pelicans with low back spasms.
With just 5.2 seconds remaining, Domantas Sabonis converted a 2+1 play, and Dennis Schroder followed this with a defensive stand, leading the Sacramento Kings to a narrow 105-104 victory over the Utah Jazz in Golden 1 Center. After missing the first game of the season due to a right hamstring strain, the 29-year-old Lithuanian big man rebounded with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. The 32-year-old German guard scored 17 points, while Croatian Dario Saric contributed five points off the bench, though French Maxime Raynaud did not see any action. Ukrainian Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk added nine points, and Bosnian Jusuf Nurkic tallied four points along with 11 rebounds.
German Franz Wagner scored a game-high 27 points, but the Orlando Magic squandered a 12-point lead early in the fourth quarter, ultimately losing to the Atlanta Hawks, 111-107, at Kia Center. Fellow German Tristan da Silva contributed 15 points, while Georgian Goga Bitadze added three points, but French Noah Penda did not play, and Moritz Wagner (recovering from a left knee injury) remained inactive. The Hawks were without Latvian Kristaps Porzingis (illness) and French Zaccharie Risacher (right ankle sprain), as well as Serbian Nikola Djurisic and Spanish Eli Ndiaye, who were not part of the trip to Orlando. Among the European presence on the Hawks, only Czech Vit Krejci played and scored five points.
In the American Airlines Center, Swiss player Kyshawn George was exceptional, recording 34 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including seven three-pointers, along with 11 rebounds for a double-double, leading the Washington Wizards to a 117-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
