As his Milwaukee Bucks teammate, Bobby Portis Jr., gained viral fame, Giannis Antetokounmpo playfully commented on offseason speculation, diverting attention from himself to the 30-year-old American forward.
“Stop worrying about me! What’s going on, Bobby? Are you staying or heading out?” the ‘Freak’ wrote in an Instagram post, alluding to Portis’s player option of approximately $13.4 million for the 2025-26 season.
The seasoned player, who boasts 703 NBA games and is a former standout at Arkansas, previously noted that Giannis “bleeds green” during his guest appearance on FanDuel’s Run it Back show.
His choice is likely to influence the Bucks, but it will obviously not be as significant as the potential departure of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 Most Valuable Player, as well as the Finals MVP from 2021.
Originating from Athens, Greece, Antetokounmpo is under contract through the end of the 2026-27 season, valued at around $160 million, with a nearly $63 million option for the 2027-28 season. Portis has expressed his intention to remain with the Bucks rather than explore options that could enhance their quest for a second NBA title.
During the 2024-25 Regular Season and the 2025 Playoffs, Antetokounmpo participated in 72 games, averaging 30.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 0.9 steals per game.
His twelfth season in the NBA concluded in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, where his team, under the guidance of Doc Rivers, was eliminated in five games by the Indiana Pacers.
