In an encouraging update regarding Victor Wembanyama, it has been announced that the San Antonio Spurs anticipate the French sensation will be cleared to return for the NBA Preseason 2025, allowing him to commence preparations for the 2025-26 season without any restrictions.
The 21-year-old center had to miss the latter portion of the 2024-25 regular season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, which contributed to the Spurs’ gradual decline from playoff contention and resulted in a 34-48 record, placing them 13th in the Western Conference.
On Tuesday’s broadcast of The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania disclosed that the Spurs are hopeful Wembanyama will be ready for the upcoming season’s training camp. “The Spurs are fully confident that Wemby will be good to go for the beginning of training activities,” Charania shared. He also noted that there was mutual interest between the Spurs and Kevin Durant leading up to the trade deadline.
In April, during an end-of-season press conference, Wembanyama was hesitant to delve into specifics regarding his recovery from a blood clot. While he refrained from providing a concrete timeline for his third NBA season, he did express likelihood about not participating in EuroBasket 2025.
Throughout his first two seasons, Wembanyama has made 117 appearances in the NBA, establishing himself as a standout player. He averaged 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.7 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game before his injury in February.
Prior to being drafted first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, Wembanyama spent three successful years in France’s top division, playing for Metropolitans 92, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, and Nanterre 92, as well as competing in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the 7DAYS EuroCup.
Stay tuned for more updates.
