DENVER (AP) — Denver Nuggets point guard Russell Westbrook announced that he will undergo surgery on Tuesday to address two fractures in his right hand that he incurred during the season.
In his “Word of Westbrook” newsletter, he expressed his gratitude for the support he has received throughout the year, stating, “I can’t wait to return at full strength soon. The journey back has already begun.”
Westbrook, 36, recently concluded a season where he played a significant role in helping the Nuggets push the Oklahoma City Thunder to a seven-game series in the second round of the playoffs before being eliminated. He provided valuable contributions off the bench during the playoffs, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists during the regular season.
Last summer, Westbrook signed a two-year contract that includes a player option for next season, valued at $3,468,960. Over his career, he has played for the Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and Houston Rockets, following an 11-season tenure with the Thunder.
